From ‘Dummy’ to Celebrated Brain Surgeon
Interviewer: “At the age of ten you were seen as a dummy. By the age of 12, you were seen as one of the brightest kids in the class. What happened in those two years?” Dr. Ben Carson: “The key thing in those two years is my mother prayed to God and asked for wisdom and came up with the idea of turning off the TV. Should I say this on a TV show? (Laughter) we were allowed to watch only two or three television programs during the week, and with all that spare time, we had to read two books apiece from the Detroit Public Library…and submit to her written book reports, which she couldn’t read, but we didn’t know that.
